Panels on the roof are half the system.

Whether your lights stay on in an outage is decided by the interconnection and the critical-load panel, not by the modules.

Solar & Battery Storage Hookup — an example of this kind of work
Overview

Solar & Battery Storage Hookup

The electrical side of a solar or battery project — main panel interconnection, a critical-load subpanel, rapid shutdown, and the transfer arrangement that decides what actually stays on when the grid drops.

What this job typically includes

  • Main service panel interconnection, line-side or load-side tap
  • Critical-load subpanel so the right circuits stay energised in an outage
  • Battery system electrical integration and transfer control
  • Rapid shutdown, labelling and code-required signage
  • Panel upgrade where the existing bus cannot carry the interconnection
  • Utility interconnection paperwork support and inspection
How it works

From your request to a finished job.

  1. 01

Tell us what is going on

Call, or spend two minutes on the quote form. We ask what the problem is, what kind of property, and where you are — enough to pass it to the right contractors and no more.

  2. 02

We pass it to local electricians

Your request goes to independent electrical contractors who work in your area and do that type of work. A panel upgrade and a PLC fault are not the same trade, so the kind of job decides who sees it.

  3. 03

    Contractors get in touch

Contractors who want the job contact you directly to talk it through and give you a price. Compare them, ask questions, and choose who you want — or nobody.

  4. 04

    You decide and hire

Your agreement for the work is with the contractor you choose, not with us. Before you agree, get the quote in writing, check their licence and insurance with your state, and ask whether a permit is needed.

Questions

Solar & Battery — what people ask.

Why doesn't my solar work during a blackout?

A grid-tied inverter without storage is required to shut down when the grid goes down — otherwise it would backfeed the lines and endanger utility crews. Riding through an outage requires a battery and a transfer arrangement, not just panels.

What is a critical-load panel?

A subpanel holding only the circuits you want backed up — fridge, some lighting, network, well pump. Batteries have finite capacity, so deciding what lives on that panel is the single most consequential design choice in the project.

Will I need a panel upgrade for solar?

Often, because of the busbar rating rule that limits how much can be backfed into a panel. A 100-amp panel frequently cannot take a meaningful array on a load-side connection. A line-side tap or a service upgrade are the two usual paths.
